The Wilton Fire Department supplies 24-hour fire, rescue and emergency medical aid to the Town. Wilton receives fire protection from a combination career and volunteer fire department. In FY 2003 there will be 23 career and 15 volunteer fire fighters operating a fleet of 5 fire trucks and 6 support vehicles from 2 stations. In addition to fire protection, they provide hazardous material spill mitigation, bio-terrorism response, and rescue assistance. The Fire Department also assists at emergency medical calls.
The department actively participates in mutual aid agreements with all 6 neighboring communities. The Insurance Service Office (ISO) gives Wilton a primary rating of 4 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the best and 10 indicating no fire protection. The Town has recently appointed a new Fire Marshal and a Fire Inspector. This will improve the fire education, prevention and code enforcement programs.
