Press Release
Wilton Drought Advisory
October 9, 2007 – On Friday, October 5, 2007 Governor Rell issued a drought advisory to the State of Connecticut and encouraged state residents to cut down on water usage. “I ask all Wilton citizens to follow Governor Rell’s request” First Selectman Bill Brennan stated and added: “Some residents have recently had their wells go dry, which is a sign that clearly emphasizes the need for water conservation by all residents.”
The following are the Governor’s tips on water efficiency:
Bathrooms
- Do not let water run while brushing teeth or shaving.
- Take short showers instead of baths.
Kitchen/Laundry
- Keep drinking water in the refrigerator instead of letting the faucet run until the water is cool.
- Operate the dishwasher only when completely full.
- Use the appropriate water level or load size selection on the washing machine.
Outside
- Sweep driveways, sidewalks and steps rather than hosing off.
- Wash the car with water from a bucket, or consider using a commercial car wash that recycles water.
- When using the hose, control the flow with an automatic shut-off nozzle.
Equipment
- Repair all leaks. Toilet repair advice is available at www.toileotlogy.com/index.shtml.
Watering
- Detect and repair all leaks in irrigation systems.
Rainfall totals for the last few months are down 35%. While wet weather is expected mid week and possibly this coming weekend, residents are asked to voluntarily conserve water until reservoirs have reached their normal levels.

Mr. Brennan stated: “In summary, we have had drought periods before and I am confident if we all conserve water as outlined above, we will maintain sufficient water resources to meet the essential needs of the community.”
