Coronavirus Update-Election Day 411, Ballot Returns, Flu Clinic Subscribed, Halloween Guidance, 2nd Food Box Distribution & Case Data

October 8th –The following are highlights from today’s CT DPH report versus Monday’s October 5th report:

  • Wilton: no net change in cases.
  • Statewide: 628 new cases. 1.2% of tests performed reported positive.
  • Hospitalized Patients: Statewide, 1-net patient decrease. Fairfield County, 1-net patient decrease.
  • Deaths: Statewide, 10.  Fairfield County, 2.

Today, CT DPH released case and death data for nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  Once again, there were no new cases or deaths at Wilton’s facilities.

Wilton’s Registrars presented information about Election Day at this Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting, including health protocols and details on absentee ballot controls.  The video of the meeting is available on the Town website.  The Registrars' presentation begins 3 minutes into the video.

The Town Clerk’s office has processed more than 4,300 absentee ballot applications and over 1,200 returned ballots.  If possible, we ask residents not to wait until the last minute to request or return a ballot.  Information is available on the Town Clerk’s website.

This Saturday’s drive-thru flu clinic, sponsored by the Wilton Health Department and Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County, is fully subscribed. Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County serves as the Town’s public health and school nurses.  This year, their nurses have also been engaged as contact tracers.  We are fortunate to have such an excellent partner.

As a reminder, CT DPH issued guidance for Halloween.

Next Tuesday, Wilton's Social Services Department is hosting a second drive-thru food box distribution for food pantry clients and any other Wilton residents in need.  Once again, anyone interested in accessing this free resource, which includes produce, meat and milk, should plan to drive through the front loop of Comstock.  We are awaiting instruction from the distribution center before we are able to announce the pick-up time.  Please call social services on Monday afternoon to receive the time.

A town employee will put the box in your car, either through an open window or in the trunk to maximize safety and confidentiality.  Chief John Lynch and Social Services Director, Sarah Heath, coordinated with state and regional officials to bring the USDA Farmers-to Families Food Boxes Program to Wilton.  Please contact Sarah Heath, Social Services Director, with any questions or for more information: sarah.heath@wiltonct.org or 203-834-6238.  Thank you to volunteers from Wilton CERT for their assistance with this program.
