Coronavirus Update-Fields and Youth Sports, Senior Photos on Lilly, Car Thefts & Case Data

May 26th -Youth sports are able to resume in Phase 2, currently scheduled to begin on June 20th.  We have been in touch with many of the Wilton youth sports organizations.  They are reviewing new guidelines issued by their national and state organizations.  State government is expected to issue guidelines within two weeks.  In Phase 2, we expect field usage will return to normal use, as per our field usage policy.

Parks and Recreation Director Steve Pierce is closely monitoring bookings for tennis courts, the Stadium track and fields.  Over the last 10 days, the track has been nearly fully booked, but plenty of availability has remained for the Stadium turf.

We are making Lilly field available for senior class family photos on the “W”.  Opportunities will be available during both Phase 1 and Phase 2 to allow for families greater than 5 persons.  There are over 300 students in the graduation class.  Allowing for rain dates, photos will occur over a few weeks.  Please watch for further details.

Last year, the Wilton Police ran a successful Lock it or Lose it campaign to encourage residents to lock their car doors.  The previous rash of car thefts ended because thieves weren’t successful. Unfortunately, the car thefts have been back on multiple occasions, as they are finding plenty of unlocked cars.   No neighborhood is immune, not even mine.  Please lock your car, for your safety and for the safety of us all.

CT DPH reported 145 new cases in Fairfield Country for a total of 15,355. Wilton had no new cases, but all our surrounding suburban communities saw increases, including Darien with 10 new cases and Westport with 7 new cases.  A reminder that the virus is still with us and we all must continue to take precautions. After three days of increases, Fairfield County hospitalizations decreased by 8 to 225. Deaths in Fairfield Country rose by 10 to 1,231.

Statewide, CT DPH reported 430 new cases for a total of 41,303 laboratory-confirmed cases, as of 8:30 p.m. yesterday. The 257 cases have not yet been assigned to a municipality.  7,590 new tests were performed for a pandemic-to-date total of 225,362 in Connecticut.  Statewide deaths rose by 27 to 3,769.  Statewide hospitalizations decreased by 12 patients to 694.

Out of respect for each other, as Americans that care for each other, we need to wearing masks in public when we cannot socially distance.”  Dr. Deborah Birx, Coronavirus Response Coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force
