Coronavirus Update- Fishing Licenses, Eat Local/Win Local & Case Data

May 1st – Happy May Day. A new month and my 49th update!

As a follow up to last night’s update, residents have inquired about the need for a fishing license.  They are required by the State of Connecticut and can be obtained online

Don’t feel like cooking this weekend?  Participate in Eat Local, Win Local Wilton by ordering take out from one of Wilton’s restaurants.

An article in today’s Good Morning Wilton contains helpful details, along with slides, about yesterday’s press conference with the Governor and Reopen Connecticut co-chairs. It’s important to remember that the process of reopening will be very slow, with only small steps taken on May 20th.  We have a long road ahead of us and the more we continue to behave as if we have the virus and as if those around us do as well, the better the journey.

Today, CT DPH reports 28,764 laboratory-confirmed statewide cases with 11,612 or 40% in Fairfield County and 159 in Wilton. 371 cases have not yet been assigned to a municipality, much lower than we have seen. Yesterday and today, new cases in Fairfield County are higher than recent single day totals, though not as high as in the past. Deaths rose to 2,339 statewide and to 839 in Fairfield County.

Today the Governor issued Executive Order 7HH, which clarified confusion about the mandatory suspension of annual town meetings.

As always, if you have any questions, please email the appropriate town department or me at lynne.vanderslice@wiltonct.org.

Thank you,

Lynne Vanderslice

First Selectwoman

What should you do to stop the spread?

  • Stay home.
  • Maintain a distance of 6 feet between you and another person.  This standard applies whether inside or outside.
  • Wear a mask when in public.
  • Respect the Governor’s prohibition on social or recreational gatherings of more than 5 people, including leisure gatherings.
  • Consolidate your shopping and errands to minimize the numbers of days you must leave your home.  If the store parking lot is more than half full, return home and shop at another time.
  • Take advantage of the delivery options offered by many Wilton businesses.
  • Practice your team sport on your own, not with your teammates.  The internet is full of videos and suggestions on how to do this.
  • Do walk outside. If your street is walkable, please consider walking there rather than a public trail. When the NRVT parking lot, or that of another trail, is more than 50% full, please find another place to walk.  There are 127 miles of town-owned roads, more than 80 private roads and more than 3 miles of sidewalk on state-owned roads.
  • Please respect the town’s closure of fields and recreation facilities.
