Coronavirus Update-July 4th Festivities Canceled, SkillUp CT & Case Data

May 4th–Today’s report is short as we had a Board of Selectmen meeting tonight.  At our meeting we agreed to cancel the Town's traditional July 4th festivities. Gatherings of that size won’t be allowed for some time.  We also began discussions on reductions to the previously submitted BOS FY2021budget.  We will hold a special meeting on Monday, May 11th to finalize our reductions before presentation to the Board of Finance on the following evening.

Today, the Governor announced SkillUp CT, a program which offers online courses to recipients of unemployment.

Today, CT DPH reported 29,973 laboratory-confirmed statewide cases. This included new cases for yesterday and today.  67% of new cases, as reported, were in Fairfield County, bringing the Fairfield County total to 12,245, with 162 in Wilton. The growth in Fairfield County cases was fueled by Stamford, which has 292 new cases, or 44% of today’s statewide case growth.  In the last five days, Fairfield County cases have grown by 1,260.  In the prior five days, case growth was 758.  Case growth is trending in the wrong direction.  Please continue to behave as if you have the virus and as if those around you do as well.  312 cases have not yet been assigned to a municipality. Statewide, deaths rose by 61 to 2,556 and to 910 in Fairfield County.

Hospitalized patients dropped for the 12th day in a row both statewide and in Fairfield County.  Statewide is down 24 to 1,464 and Fairfield County is down 7 to 507.

The Governor did not issue an executive order today.

As always, if you have any questions, please email the appropriate town department or me at lynne.vanderslice@wiltonct.org.

Thank you,

Lynne Vanderslice

First Selectwoman

What should you do to stop the spread?

  • Stay home.
  • Maintain a distance of 6 feet between you and another person.  This standard applies whether inside or outside.
  • Wear a mask when in public.
  • Respect the Governor’s prohibition on social or recreational gatherings of more than 5 people, including leisure gatherings.
  • Consolidate your shopping and errands to minimize the numbers of days you must leave your home.  If the store parking lot is more than half full, return home and shop at another time.
  • Take advantage of the delivery options offered by many Wilton businesses.
  • Practice your team sport on your own, not with your teammates.  The internet is full of videos and suggestions on how to do this.
  • Do walk outside. If your street is walkable, please consider walking there rather than a public trail. When the NRVT parking lot, or that of another trail, is more than 50% full, please find another place to walk.  There are 127 miles of town-owned roads, more than 80 private roads and more than 3 miles of sidewalk on state-owned roads.
  • Please respect the town’s closure of fields and recreation facilities.
