Coronavirus Update-New Cases, September Totals, State Halloween Guidance, New Fire Chief, Ballot Mailing & Case Data

October 1st–The following are highlights from today’s CT DPH report versus Monday’s September 28th report:

  • Wilton: 1 new case.
  • Statewide:  595 new cases. 1.8% of tests performed reported positive.
  • Hospitalized Patients: Statewide, 32-net patient increase. Fairfield County, 4-net patient increase.
  • Deaths: Statewide, 8.  Fairfield County, 0.

Statewide cases during the month of September were 48% greater than cases during the month of August.  Among the counties, Fairfield County had the lowest rate of case growth at 16%.  New London and Hartford Counties had among the highest at 170% and 52%, respectively.

Statewide hospitalizations were up 91% in September from 56 to 107.  Again, the increase was driven by New London and Hartford Counties.

Wilton and Fairfield County are doing much better compared to the rest of the State.  That is good news as we look forward to our youngest learners returning to 4-day in-person learning on Monday. Keep up the good work Wilton!

Today, CT DPH issued guidance for a safe Halloween.  The department recommended residents avoid door-to-door trick-or-treating and trunk-or-treat events.  The department also reminded residents of the 25-person cap on indoor gatherings at a private residence.  Please review their suggestions for safer ways to celebrate Halloween here. Scarecrows return to Wilton Center on October 16th

Please join me in congratulating Jim Blanchfield, who was sworn in today as Wilton’s Fire Chief.  Jim most recently served as Wilton’s Acting Deputy Fire Chief and prior as a Wilton Fire Captain.

Tomorrow, almost 4,000 absentee ballots will be mailed to Wilton residents, who previously submitted applications.  You can track your application and your ballot here.  Ballots can be returned to the Town Clerk by mail or by placing in the ballot box outside Police Headquarters.
