Coronavirus Update- Nine New Cases & Case Data

October 26th –The following are highlights from today’s CT DPH report versus Friday’s October 23rd report.

  • Wilton:  9 new cases.  We have had 18 cases in the last 7 days for a 7-day average daily rate of 14 cases per 100,000 residents
  • Fairfield County:  571 new cases. Fairfield County has had 1,219 cases in the last 7 days for an average 7-day daily rate of 18 cases per 100,000 residents.
  • Statewide:  2,047 new cases.  The State has had 4,078 cases in the last 7 days for an average 7-day daily rate of 16 cases per 100,000 residents.
  • Statewide:  2.2% of current tests performed reported positive.
  • Hospitalized Patients:  Statewide, 37-net patient increase. Fairfield County, 10-net patient increase.
  • Deaths:  Statewide, 12.  Fairfield County, 1.

There was not a single event responsible for the new cases this weekend or the recent increase in cases.  Again, new cases were spread primarily among those aged 20 to 60.

We recognize that COVID fatigue is real. My family is just like yours in that we are unable to do many of the things we love and were unable to properly honor a recently lost love one.  But, we know wearing a mask, maintaining distance, avoiding high risk activities and avoiding travel to high risk states are the most important things we can do to limit the spread of the virus.

We will be increasing awareness about the requirement to wear a mask.  New Canaan is mandating masks in their downtown, even when outside, during the hours from 9a.m. to 9p.m.  We recognize our ability to take similar punitive action, but hope that we do not have to do so.  We hope residents will voluntarily follow the requirement to wear a mask or maintain 6 feet of distance, especially in our more crowded areas, such as the NRVT and Wilton Center.

We strongly urge parents and residents to consider the State and CDC guidance when planning your Halloween activities.
