Coronavirus Update- Resident Questions & Case Data

April 26th – Declines in hospitalizations continued for the fourth day in a row, both statewide and in Fairfield County.  Statewide hospitalizations are down by 206 versus their highest level on April 22nd.  Fairfield County hospitalizations are down by 162 versus our highest level on April 17th

The following are a sample of recent questions:

  • Is the Town or a local organization distributing masks to residents?  Yes. The Town, through the Health and Social Services Departments and volunteers with Wilton Helping Hands, is distributing surgical masks to our most vulnerable residents and to senior living communities.  The volunteer organization Warrior Helpers is distributing cloth masks to other residents. You can also make your own by following easy instructions on the CDC website.
  • Is there guidance for necessary out-of-state travel? Yes.  The CDC has guidance for various modes of travel and for staying in a hotel.  The Governor has asked those coming into CT from another state to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival into CT.
  • What are the restrictions on gatherings?  On March 26th, the Governor issued Executive Order 7N, which restricts social and recreational gatherings to no more than five people. The order includes, but is not limited to, community, civic, leisure, or sporting events; concerts; festivals; plays or live performances; conventions and similar activities; except that religious, spiritual, or worship gatherings will remain subject only to the prohibition of 50 persons or more. This does not apply to government operations, private workplaces, retail establishments, or other activities that are not social or recreational gatherings.

If you missed last night’s update, today is the first day of "Eat Local, Win Local in Wilton".  When you order at least $15 at a Wilton restaurant from April 26 - May 30th, 2020, take a picture of your receipt or a selfie of you and your order and email to sarah.gioffre@wiltonct.org. Please, no more than one submission per day. Four winners of gift certificates will be drawn each week.

Today, CT DPH reports 25,269 laboratory-confirmed statewide cases with 10,529 or 42% in Fairfield County and no change at 144 in Wilton.  522 cases have not yet been assigned to a municipality. Today’s test positive rate is 31%. Currently, 2.2% of the State’s population has been tested.  Deaths rose by 62 to 1,924, with Fairfield County at 707.  To put the Fairfield County 707 deaths in context, in 2018 total deaths averaged 571 per month versus the 686 Coronavirus deaths in the last four weeks.   The number of patients currently hospitalized decreased by 44 to 1,766 with a decrease of 14 in Fairfield County to 635.

Please continue to behave as if you have the virus and as if those around you do as well.

As of yet, the Governor has not issued an executive order today.

As always, if you have any questions, please email the appropriate town department or me at lynne.vanderslice@wiltonct.org

Thank you,

Lynne Vanderslice

First Selectwoman

What should you do to stop the spread?

  • Stay home.
  • Maintain a distance of 6 feet between you and another person.  This standard applies whether inside or outside.
  • Wear a mask when in public.
  • Respect the Governor’s prohibition on social or recreational gatherings of more than 5 people, including leisure gatherings.
  • Consolidate your shopping and errands to minimize the numbers of days you must leave your home.  If the store parking lot is more than half full, return home and shop at another time.
  • Take advantage of the delivery options offered by many Wilton businesses.
  • Practice your team sport on your own, not with your teammates.  The internet is full of videos and suggestions on how to do this.
  • Do walk outside. If your street is walkable, please consider walking there rather than a public trail. When the NRVT parking lot, or that of another trail, is more than 50% full, please find another place to walk.  There are 127 miles of town-owned roads, more than 80 private roads and more than 3 miles of sidewalk on state-owned roads.
  • Please respect the town’s closure of fields and recreation facilities.
