Coronavirus Update-Resident Questions, New State Business Resource & Case Data

May 14th–The following are more recent resident questions:

Regarding outdoor dining - does the 6 feet apart refer to just the tables themselves or also groups of customers at each table?  This refers to the distance between customers.  This is the initial guidance provided “Rearrange space to maintain at least 6 feet of distance between customers…… Distance shall be measured from the closest chair at one table to the closest chair at another table.

Why aren’t nail salons being reopened?  Nail salons require hand contact.  Hands are often a means of transfer point for the virus.

When are playgrounds likely to open?  Unlike tennis courts, playgrounds are filled with touch points.  I expect the guidance from the State will require detailed and time-consuming cleaning protocols between each child’s use.  They will likely open in a later phase.

When will the Stadium track be open to the public?  The Wilton High School (WHS) Track and Tom Fujitani Field at Memorial Stadium will be reopened on a limited basis this weekend through the Parks & Recreation Department’s e-Trak reservation system.  As with the tennis courts, residents will be able to reserve time for up to five family members.  An executive order issued by the Governor limits all leisure and sports gatherings to five individuals.  Look for an announcement tomorrow with further details.

When will family doubles tennis be allowed?  Tennis at the WHS/RT7 courts is being expanded to allow family doubles and non-family singles beginning this weekend.  Look for an announcement tomorrow with further details.

How many residents of Wilton’s nursing home and assisted living facilities have tested positive? And how many cases resulted in a laboratory-confirmed or probable Coronavirus death? As of yesterday, the State reported 45 cases and 33 deaths of residents living in those facilities. Note, not all of those individuals may have been permanent Wilton residents. Permanent residency is the basis for the Wilton case and death numbers below.

The State has launched the CT Business Recovery and Reopening Center - a one-stop resource to help businesses prepare, rebuild, and grow during the State's Coronavirus emergency.

Today, CT DPH reported 35,464 or 509 new laboratory-confirmed statewide cases.  Of those 13,836 and 200 new cases were in Fairfield County.  Wilton’s cases are at 198.  235 cases have not yet been assigned to a municipality.

Today’s report included 6,619 new tests performed, the first day the State has achieved the benchmark goal of 6,000 tests per day.  The report also includes a graph with cases per 100,000 per county per week.  It is a good demonstration of how State measures taken in reaction to activity in Fairfield County positively impacted Hartford, New Haven and the other Counties.

Statewide deaths rose by 94 to 3,125.  Deaths in Fairfield County rose by 25 to 1093.

Statewide hospitalizations decreased by 55 patients to 1,103 and Fairfield County hospitalizations decreased by 6 to 372.

What are the most important things you can do to protect yourself and others?

  • Unless you have a health condition that prevents wearing a face covering, comply with the Governor’s executive order and wear a face covering while in public, whether outside or in a retail outlet and when you can can’t maintain 6 feet distance from any other individual.
  • While out running or walking, if you aren’t wearing a face covering, maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others running or walking on the same road, sidewalk or trail.

As always, if you have any questions, please email the appropriate town department or me at lynne.vanderslice@wiltonct.org.

Thank you,
