Coronavirus Update- Thankful in the Time of COVID, Case Data & Step-Up CT

November 23rd – On Thanksgiving Day, several awesome volunteers will deliver Thanksgiving dinner to residents who are alone or otherwise would not have a dinner.  The dinners, organized by Social Services, are possible due to the generosity of Wilton residents.  This is just one example of the many kind and generous acts by Wilton residents and businesses throughout the pandemic.  To those who made masks, delivered groceries and medicine to the elderly, donated to the Food Pantry, delivered meals to healthcare workers, provided gift cards and treats to our emergency responders, donated PPE, checked in with those living alone or neighbors, provided music outside our congregate living facilities, painted rocks and sidewalks with messages of hope, cheered for grads and birthdays or performed the hundreds of other acts of kindness, thank you!  You are what makes Wilton such a wonderful community, especially now.  

The following is data from today’s CT DPH report versus Friday’s November 20th report:

  • Wilton:  26 new cases reported.  This is almost 2 times the number of cases reported to the Health Department for contact tracing.  We are investigating this unusually large disparity. 447 cases YTD.
  • Statewide:  5,271 new cases.  4.83% of new tests reported were positive.  106,740 cases YTD.
  • Fairfield County:  1,624 new cases.  35,272 cases YTD.
  • Hospitalized Patients: Statewide, 875 with a 27-net patient increase. Fairfield County, 241, with a 3-net patient increase.
  • Deaths: Statewide, 4,871 with 43 new deaths.  Fairfield County, 1,477, with 6 new deaths.  Wilton, 43, with no new deaths.

Wilton’s known new cases for today ranged from ages 2 to 73.

Today, the Governor announced Step-Up Connecticut, an effort to enlist help during the pandemic.  Needs include substitute teachers, volunteers for testing sites and food distribution and nursing home and hospital workers.  More information is available here.

On Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday weekend, please, behave as if you have the virus and as if those around you do as well.

  • Watch your distance
  • Wear a mask/face covering when you can’t maintain 6 feet of distance whether indoors or outside
  • Walk, run or bike to the right in single file when passing another person on the NRVT, sidewalks and trails
  • Wait to host indoor gatherings
  • Wash your hands
