PURA’s investigation into Eversource’s response to Tropical Storm Isaias (docket no. 20-08-03) continues.  Thank you to every who wrote to PURA during the public hearings.   The following is the remaining anticipated timeline:

December 14-18, December 21 & 22 - Evidentiary Hearings

January 6-8 - Late Filed Exhibits Hearings (if needed)

February 5 - Briefs Due

February 19 - Reply Briefs Due

March 19 - Draft Decision Issued

April 12 - Exceptions to Draft Decision

April 19 - Oral Arguments

April 28 - Final Decision

This matter is separate from PURA’s announcement last week of an overhaul of the rate-setting process.  The biggest change to the process was related to interest charges. Eversource purchases the power it sells to customers.  They are allowed to charge customers interest on pre-purchases. Allowable interest charges had been based on a series of projections, not actual data. According to the relatively new PURA Chair, this led to charged interest rates of 7-9%. The new process limits interest rates to good credit prime, which is currently 3.25%.  Rate setting will also rely more on actual data, rather than projected data.

Please, behave as if you have the virus and as if those around you do as well.
