Home Energy Efficiency

Of Connecticut’s 169 cities and towns, Wilton currently enjoys a commendable 12th place in EnergizeCT’s official household participation rate in home energy efficiency.  Eversource data released on June 31st, 2015 shows that 1,301 households - 21% of Wilton’s total of 6,058 - have had home energy assessments, upgraded lighting, installed insulation, replaced inefficient heating/cooling systems, etc., since 2010.

The municipalities with even higher participation rates are Canaan (with 38% of homes having upgraded energy efficiencies since 2010!), Middletown, Bloomfield, Sharon, Cornwall, Mansfield, East Hartford, Salisbury, Hartford, Cheshire and Portland at 22%.  We salute those cities and towns, and believe that every town Connecticut can do better in the coming years.

Connecticut’s many user-friendly energy-savings programs and vetted energy efficiency contractors are featured at EnergizeCT’s web pages in the special residential section. Residents are encouraged to explore those programs and get the work done. It’s usually less expensive to get the recommended work done than it is to do nothing and continue paying for energy being wasted by a poorly insulated home or an old HVAC system! And it’s far better for our environment as well.
