How to Obtain Vehicle Permit Stickers, Transfer Station Tickets & Food Scrap Recycling Starter Kits

Vehicle Permit Stickers are required to access the Transfer Station. Effective July 1, 2023, Wilton residents will be required to have a newly purchased vehicle permit sticker in order to use the Wilton Transfer Station for any purpose, including recycling.  Purchased tickets are required for disposal of certain waste streams, as detailed on the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA) website.  

How to Purchase Vehicle Permit Sticker(s)

FY2024 vehicle permit sticker fees are as follows:

  • $40 for first vehicle for residents age 64 and younger.
  • $20 for second vehicle. 
  • Residents age 65 years and up, $20 for any vehicle. 

There is a maximum of two stickers per household.  New permit stickers will be required for each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). 

Vehicle Permit Stickers may be purchased online.

To purchase stickers in-person or by mail, please do the following:

  1. Complete the Transfer Station Vehicle Permit and Food Scraps Recycling Kits Application
  2. If purchasing in-person, bring the completed application, along with your vehicle registration(s) to the Wilton Town Clerk's office, 238 Danbury Road, Wilton.
  3. If ordering by mail, send the application along with a copy of vehicle registration(s) and a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Wilton Town Clerk, Wilton Town Hall, 238 Danbury Road, Wilton CT 06897.  

If your vehicle is not registered at a Wilton address, proof of residency is required.

For a free replacement of your vehicle permit sticker when you turn in or dispose of a vehicle, you must return the old vehicle permit sticker to the Wilton Town Clerk's Office or you will be charged for a new sticker.

How to Purchase Transfer Station Tickets

Transfer Station tickets can be ordered and purchased online. Click here.  Tickets can also be ordered and purchased in-person from the Town Clerk's office or by mail. Tickets are NOT available at the Transfer Station. 

The cost of tickets is as follows:

  • $45 for a book of ten (10) or $4.50 per ticket;
  • $35 for a book of (10) or $3.50 per ticket for Senior Citizens age 65 and older.

If purchasing at Town Hall, please bring a completed check payable to Town of Wilton for the proper number of tickets to the Town Clerk's office or mail your check with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Wilton Town Clerk, Wilton Town Hall, 238 Danbury Road, Wilton CT 06897.

How to Purchase Food Scraps Recycling Program Starter Kits

The Town of Wilton Transfer Station will be implementing a food scrap recycling pilot program beginning on Saturday, January 28, 2023. 

Wilton residents can purchase a starter kit online for $20 which includes a 1.5-gallon bin, a larger 6-gallon bin that locks for transporting food scraps, and a roll of 25 compostable bags. Click here to purchase a starter kit.  Purchased kits will be available for pick up at Wilton Town Clerk, Wilton Town Hall, 238 Danbury Road, Wilton during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm).  

Starter kits can also be ordered and purchased in-person from the Town Clerk. If purchasing in-person at Town Clerk, please bring a completed check payable to Town of Wilton for $20 to the Town Clerk's office located at Wilton Town Hall, 238 Danbury Road, Wilton.  Starter kits cannot be purchased by mail and are NOT available at the Transfer Station.

Starting January 28, 2023, residents can begin depositing acceptable food scraps at designated collections bins located at the Wilton Transfer Station during regular business hours.  A Vehicle Permit Sticker is required to enter the Wilton Transfer Station. Tickets will not be required to deposit food scraps.

Transfer Station Hours

Effective January 28, 2023, the Transfer Station is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.  

While using the Transfer Station, please remember to keep your distance from Transfer Station employees and other residents.  Transfer Station employees will provide direction, but have been ordered not to provide assistance with the handling of your materials.  Please do not request assistance.
