Transfer Station-Waste and Trash Disposal
Wilton is a member of the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA), a regional, governmental, waste management and recycling authority. Please visit for the HRRA website for helpful and additional information.
A vehicle permit sticker is required for any residential vehicle delivering solid waste, bulky waste, or recyclables to the Wilton Transfer Station. Effective July 1, 2023, Wilton residents will be required to have a newly purchased vehicle permit sticker in order to use the Wilton Transfer Station for any purpose, including recycling.
FY2024 vehicle permit sticker fees are as follows:
- $40 for first vehicle for residents age 64 and younger.
- $20 for second vehicle.
- Residents age 65 years and up, $20 for any vehicle.
There is a maximum of two stickers per household. New permit stickers will be required for each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

Fees: Residents are required to purchase tickets from the Town Clerk to dispose of certain materials. Ticket cost is $4.50 per ticket. $3.50 per ticket for residents 65 and up. Click here for information on how to obtain tickets. The fee schedule is as follows:

Recyclables include clean metal and glass, plastic #1-7, dry newspapers and magazines, mixed paper, flattened card, fiber and paperboard, clothing and shoes, empty aerosol cans, light bulbs (use e-waste trailer). To check if a material is recyclable, click here.
Scrap Metal includes lawn mowers, car bumpers, leaf/snow blowers, washer/dryer and loose scrap metal. Doors must be removed from refrigerators and glass removed from any scrap metal.
Bulky Waste and Construction Debris includes table, chair, lamp, mattress/box spring, headboard, couch, wooden desk, dresser and lumber cut to 4ft length. Maximum load is 3 cubic feet. To find a location with free mattress disposal here.
Items not accepted include hazardous waste, propane tanks, paint, grass clippings, leaves, trees, logs, storm debris, woodchips, or any type of earth material (e.g., fill).
Waste oil can be dropped off at Auto Zone at 50 Cross Street, Norwalk 203-750-0091 or other Connecticut Auto Zone locations. Check the location for times and quantity accepted.

The Transfer Station only accepts material that originates from residential properties in the Town of Wilton.
