Coronavirus Update- Case Data, SBA Loans, Road Paving, Transfer Station

March 27th- The sun was shining today, so I hope you were able to take a walk or work in the yard or just sit on the deck and relieve some stress.

Today’s report from CT DPH indicates there are 25 laboratory-confirmed cases in Wilton.  Wilton Health Department is aware of 29 cases. CT DPH reports 1,291 laboratory-confirmed statewide cases with 752 in Fairfield County and 27 deaths statewide. Today, the rate positive was back down to the mid-teens.  Today’s results are primarily for tests taken on March 23rd and March 24th; therefore, it appears there is generally a three-day period for receipt of results.  We have been told, due to the shortage of kits and PPE, if one member of a family tests positive and one or more family members subsequently begin showing symptoms, the assumption will be that the additional family member(s) is/are positive and testing will not be performed unless necessary for treatment. Again, if you have received a confirmed or presumptive positive test and you have not been contacted by the Wilton Health Department, please contact the department.

I apologize, as last night there was an incorrect number provided as the contact number for Wilton Helping Hands. To volunteer, please call (203) 451-8479.  I understand the woman, whose number was provided in error was very nice about receiving calls, so if you are reading this, thank you for being so.

As of 6:00pm tonight, the DECD announced they have suspended accepting applications for the Connecticut Recovery Bridge Loan Program.  They received over 4,000 applications and have doubled the funding to $50 million. They are taking a pause to catch-up and assess.  They are encouraging any business that did not file prior to the deadline to consider the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan Assistance Program.

This evening, the Governor issued a Executive Order 7O, which has a few focused orders.

Road paving began this week. The schedule is available on the DPW page of the town’s website and is generally updated on Mondays.

The Transfer Station has been experiencing a high number of first-time users.  Please remember you must have a permit, which can be obtained at Town Hall by using the drop box system.  Reduced Town Hall hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 11:30am.  We are only accepting household waste and recycling at this time. Please enter the Transfer Station to the left of the small structure and don’t be concerned about driving over the scale. Trucks do it all the time.

As always, if you have any questions, email me or the appropriate town department.

Thank you,

Lynne Vanderslice

First Selectwoman

What Can You Do to Help Stop the Spread?

  • Maintain a distance of 6 feet between you and another person.  This standard applies whether inside or outside.
  • Consolidate your shopping and errands to minimize the numbers of days you must leave your home.
  • Please do not to run to the store every time you hear a delivery has arrived. Widespread overbuying is the major cause of shortages.  With businesses and schools closed and not ordering, new supply chains are open.
  • Take advantage of the delivery options offered by many Wilton businesses.
  • Practice your team sport on your own, not with your teammates.  The internet is full of videos and suggestions on how to do this.
  • Do walk outside. If your street is walkable, please consider walking there rather than a public trail. When the NRVT parking lot, or that of another trail, is more than 50% full, please find another place to walk.  There are 127 miles of town-owned roads, more than 80 private roads and more than 3 miles of sidewalk on state-owned roads.
  • Please respect the town’s closure of fields and recreation facilities.
