Coronavirus Update- Post-Thanksgiving Growth, Santa’s Mailbox, Wilton COVID Testing, EO 9Q-Facilitating Vaccinations & Case Data

December 7th –Wilton Police, Social Services and Santa have teamed up to transform the absentee ballot box outside Police Headquarters into Santa’s Mailbox.  Some lucky boys and girls might even receive a response from “Santa” aka Wilton volunteers.  Look for more in upcoming press coverage. 

Friday’s COVID testing at Comstock Community Center is good to go.  The provider agreed to a lower threshold, which we have already met. Registration for the test is available until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.  Instructions are here.  Residents requiring financial assistance should contact Social Services Director Sarah Heath at sarah.heath@wiltonct.org. The turnout for this event will determine if we can offer additional weekly testing through this provider.  Over the weekend, I answered questions on Facebook and responded to GoodMorningWilton submitted questions.  You can read those answers in this morning’s article.  

As expected, cases continue to grow post-Thanksgiving. The following is data from today’s CT DPH report versus Friday’s December 4th report:

  • Wilton:  24 new cases reported. 515 cases YTD.  
  • Statewide:  8,129 new cases.  6.61% of the 123,021 new tests reported were positive.  135,844 cases YTD.  Reported tests of 123,021is stunning if compared to September, when much less than that total was reported in a week.  
  • Fairfield County:  2,305 new cases.  43,840 cases YTD.
  • Hospitalized Patients:  Statewide, 1,183 with a 33-net patient increase. Fairfield County, 358 with a 28-net patient increase.
  • Deaths:  Statewide, 5,224 with 78 new deaths.  Fairfield County, 1,566 with 21 new deaths.  Wilton, 45, with one new death.  We have no further details.

Cases newly known to Wilton’s Health Department widely ranged in age from 2 to 80.

Today, the Governor issued Executive Order 9Q, which, among others, authorized pharmacists to administer the COVID-19 vaccine and capped the amount that providers can charge for the vaccine to ensure no one is required to pay out-of-pocket costs for the vaccine.

  • Wear a mask/face covering when you can’t maintain 6 feet of distance whether indoors or outside
  • Walk, run or bike to the right in single file when passing another person on the NRVT, sidewalks and trails
  • Wait to host indoor gatherings
