Coronavirus Update-Vaccine and Case Data

January 5th- As of this morning, the CDC reported no change in the 149,900 doses of vaccines delivered to Connecticut.  CT DPH officials stated they expect to have received 213,000 doses by the end of this week.

Of the doses received, 81,970 initial doses, or 2.3% of the state’s population, were reported as administered.  An additional 6,024 new initial doses or an 8% increase versus yesterday morning’s reported total.  Only seven states and the District of Columbia had a higher percentage of their population vaccinated.  Nationwide, 17.02 million vaccines had been delivered, an increase of 10% versus yesterday, and 4.84 million first doses had been administered, an increase of 6% versus yesterday.

The Governor’s Vaccine Advisory Group held a 2-hour meeting today that I watched.  They did not come to a resolution on a final set of recommendations, though they did achieve “widespread” endorsement of the expansion of CDC recommended Phase 1B criteria to include individuals residing in congregate settings, food service workers, water and waste workers and uncompensated caretakers for those age 75 and older.

The Group will meet again soon to further discuss residents under age 75 with increased risk medical conditions and ethnic and racial disparities associated with the endorsed criteria.  Once completed, the Group will present recommendations to the Governor.

CT DPH provided populations estimates for groups discussed, including:

  • Aged 75 or above:                                                                  275,000
  • Essential workers, as defined by the CDC:                            850,000
  • Residents living in congregate settings:                                  46,000
  • Aged 16 to 64 with increased risk medical conditions:          362,000
