Coronavirus Update- Vaccine Info, Hospital Capacity & Case Data

January 8th- As of this morning, the CDC reported no change in the number of doses of vaccines delivered to Connecticut and 116, 277 initial doses administered. That was a 15% increase versus yesterday morning’s reported total and meant 3.2% of the state’s population have received an initial dose.    Nationwide, 22.3 million vaccines had been delivered and 6.7 million first doses administered, increases of 4% and 13%, respectively.

Reminder of the Phase 1B Timeline:

  • Governor’s Vaccine Advisory Group meets on Tuesday.
  • Final guidelines for Phase 1B eligibility are expected on Thursday.
  • Information on how to schedule an appointment to be issued next week.
  • Appointment scheduling to begin in one to two weeks.
  • A timeline for Phase 1B and Phase 1C to be issued next week.

Today, the Governor announced all nursing home residents, who agreed to be vaccinated, had received the vaccine.  

Average 7-day hospital patient and IUC occupancy data was released for Connecticut hospitals for the period from 1/1/2021 to 1/7/2021 and is available here.  Norwalk was  88.8% and 58.0%.  Danbury was 79.5% and 75.7%

The following is data, as of 8:30 p.m. last night, from today’s CT DPH report versus yesterday’s January 7th report:

  • Wilton:  10 new cases reported. 653 cases YTD.  New cases during the two weeks following Christmas were about equal to the number during the two weeks following Thanksgiving.  With many residents vacationing after Christmas, we may experience a more sustained uptick than that which followed Thanksgiving.  
  • Statewide:  3,236 new cases.  8.46% of the 38,262 new tests reported were positive.  205,994 cases YTD.
  • Fairfield County 889 new cases.  61,285 cases YTD.
  • Hospitalized Patients:  Statewide1,109 with a 22-net patient increase. Fairfield County274 with a 6-net patient decrease.
  • Deaths:  Statewide, 6,324 with 37 new deaths.  Fairfield County, 1,779 with 7 new deaths.  Wilton, 45, with no new deaths.

With the uptick in cases and the variant strain of the virus now in Connecticut, please exercise extra caution and behave as if you have the virus and as if those around you do as well.

  • Wear a mask/face covering when you can’t maintain 6 feet of distance whether indoors or outside
  • Walk, run or bike to the right in single file when passing another person on the NRVT, sidewalks and trails
  • Wait to host indoor gatherings
  • Wash your hands
