Coronavirus Update- Vaccine Team, Wilton COVID Testing, Step Up CT& Case Data

December 8th –Wilton’s Vaccine Team is busy with plans as to how the Town will provide vaccinations.  The Team includes employees from the Town and Visiting Nurses of  Fairfield County, which serve as Wilton’s public health nurses.  Last night the Board of Selectmen authorized me to execute the necessary documents with the Center for Disease Control to allow the Town to be a vaccine provider.  An overview of the State Plan is available here.  More detailed plans will be forthcoming.

Step Up Connecticut is looking for healthy and able residents, 18+ years old to step up and help.  Needed are substitute teachers, testing site volunteers, nursing home and hospital workers and help with food distribution. You can learn more here.

Today’s reported Statewide positivity rate of 8.65% was the highest since early May, a time when only those with symptoms were being tested. The following is data, as of 8:30 p.m. last night, from today’s CT DPH report versus  yesterday’s December 7th report:

  • Wilton:  6 new cases reported. 521 cases YTD.  
  • Statewide:  2,414 new cases.  8.65% of the 123,021 new tests reported were positive.  138,258 cases YTD.  
  • Fairfield County 536 new cases.  44,376 cases YTD.
  • Hospitalized Patients:  Statewide1,223 with a 40-net patient increaseFairfield County364 with a 6-net patient increase.
  • Deaths:  Statewide, 5,242 with 18 new deaths.  Fairfield County, 1,567 with 1 new deaths.  Wilton, 45, with no new death.  

The ages of today’s reported cases were included in last night’s update. Thus the following chart, which shows the distribution of known cases by age for the previous 7-day periods and the just ended 7-day period remains the same.
