Storm and Coronavirus Update- Eversource Reminders, Town Administrative Offices Remote Only on Monday, Vaccine Controls & Wednesday Clinic

January 31st – Tomorrow’s forecast includes heavy snow of 12 inches or more, with a possible shift to sleet and wind gusts as high as 50 mph.  Ideal conditions for power loss.  Please prepare and remember Eversource protocols and prioritization:

  • Once the storm is over, the initial crews will assess to determine the scope of work and resources required. A different crew performs the necessary work.
  • Eversource will addresses “make safe work” before power restoration.
  • Power will be restored first to emergency and health centers.
  • Restoration efforts will be prioritized based on the number of customers serviced by the outage issue.  The larger the number of customers, the higher the priority
  • Each service provider repairs their own wires, with Eversource wires repaired first.  Optimum and Frontier generally won't repair their lines until power is restored.

Eversource officials have reached out to say they are monitoring and preparing for up to 125,000 to 380,000 power outage, 1,500 to 10,000 incidents and 2 to 6 days of power loss.  Let’s hope none of that happens!

Please sign up for notices from Eversource and your cable and internet providers.

Due to the storm, the following changes are in place for Monday:

  • Town administrative servies will be remote only, with no drop-box services.  Email or call the department for service.
  • The Transfer Station will be closed to allow those employees to assist with the road plowing.

All emergency services departments will be fully operational.  Please check the status of administrative services before coming to town offices on Tuesday.

Effective this week, area hospitals and other vaccine providers are implementing new controls. This is being done because some CT residents are attempting to “skip the line” by registering for the vaccine, even though they are not currently eligible.  The time and resources required to weed out those residents has slowed down the vaccination process for everyone.  If you know of someone, who successfully skipped the line, and were considering the same, the gig is up.

Please do not make an appointment unless you are eligible to do so.  One of the reasons Connecticut is a leader in doses administered and isn’t experiencing the level of problems occurring in other states is because the state has adopted an orderly, staged approach to distribution.  Please help keep it that way for everyone's benefit.

We are holding a vaccine clinic on Wednesday for Wilton residents aged 75 and up.  If you qualify and have not scheduled an appointment through Social Services, please email Sarah Heath at sarah.heath@wiltonct.org.   Please include your name, address, date of birth and phone number.

Governor Lamont extended Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol through Wednesday.  United Way 2-1-1 operates the point of contact for residents who need shelter and transportation to shelters.

With the increasing spread of the more contagious variant strain, please exercise extra caution and behave as if you have the virus and as if those around you do as well.
