How to Pay Delinquent Taxes Before Registering a Motor Vehicle

If you have unpaid motor vehicle taxes, you will not be able to register another vehicle.  You must first pay the outstanding taxes and obtain a DMV release.

For an immediate DMV release, any outstanding motor vehicle property taxes must be paid with cash, money order or a bank check, or online with a debit/credit card.  If you pay by debit or credit card online and you need a release, please contact the Tax Collector’s office in order to expedite said release.

Any other form of payment including EFT payments made online will result in a 10-business day waiting period before a DMV release will be processed.
