Emergency Gift Fund

The Wilton Police Department Emergency Gift Fund was established in 1973 and has been solely supported by private citizen donations. The gift fund is used to assist Wilton Police Officers in their time of need when:

  • A medical emergency is beyond the scope of health insurance coverage
  • A natural disaster beyond insurance coverage
  • An unusual domestic expense beyond a savings capability
  • An inordinate legal expense
  • A personal emergency situation

The Gift Fund is administered by a Board of Trustees consisting of the Chief of Police, a member of the Police Commission, a member of the Police Department, and a member of the Board of Selectman. The Board of Trustees determines if the officer’s emergency is eligible for Gift Fund assistance. Throughout the 40 years the Gift Fund has been available, it has aided many Wilton officers in need.
